Berkeley High School Intern

Berkeley High School junior, Sofiya McGuire, did an internship with EERC through PEP (Pre-Engineering Partnerships) Director George Gagnon. Sofiya assisted in the development of a program on earthquake engineering which will be available to local K - 12 schools in the Fall of 2008. She gave valuable input to a slide show being prepared to introduce students to earthquake engineering. She also built several structures, using materials ranging from Knex to poster paper, that were tested on a small shake table. Based on her preliminary work, we plan to include the construction and testing of a model structure as a part of our program.
