Actuators

Photograph of actuators In addition to many existing actuators, the nees@berkeley Laboratory provides seven new static and dynamic actuators. The list of new actuators with their MTS model number is presented in the table below. All these MTS actuators have two swivel bases as presented in the figure.

MTS Series 243

The MTS Series 243 static actuators are heavy-duty, fatigue resistant force generation components. They are double-acting actuators that operate under precision servovalve control in MTS closed-loop servohydraulic systems. Series 243 Hydraulic Actuators are specifically designed and manufactured to meet the needs of precision static and low frequency dynamic testing applications.

The detailed drawing (with the dimensions) of the MTS 243.70T actuator is provided by MTS.

MTS Series 244

The Series 244 dynamic actuator is a double-acting, double-ended, heavy-duty actuator that operates under precision servovalve control in MTS closed-loop servohydraulic systems. The actuator is a hydraulically powered piston that can extend or retract (double-acting). The actuator provides equal power in tension and compression (double -ended). The actuator includes a load cell and an LVDT, which measure the axial load and the displacement of the actuator. The Series 244 Actuator is linear and is associated with axial control channels. A linear actuator consists of a cylinder that contains a piston.

The detailed drawings (with the dimensions) of the MTS 244.51S and MTS 244.50S actuators are provided by MTS.

Use at Other Sites

The NEES actuators weigh approximately 7,000 pounds and can only be moved by professional transport. No modification of fittings or parts of any kind will be allowed. Non-NEES projects will pay the established recharge rate. Insurance for full value will be required along with a memorandum of understanding signed by the Principal Investigator assuming responsibility and detailing the agreed upon period of use. Users will need to provide a history of oil analysis showing a consistent cleanliness of ISO 16/13/9 or better at the site of use. Only actuators not anticipated for scheduled use at the home facility may be considered for use elsewhere.
